LAUNCH: Connecticut Future Caucus

The Millennial Action Project (MAP) celebrated the launch of the Connecticut Future Caucus on Thursday, March 18th. Streaming live from the Connecticut State Capitol Building, the Connecticut Future Caucus minted itself as the 31st Future Caucus in MAP’s State Future Caucus Network.

Representative Devin Carney kicked off the event: he described himself as a “proud Millennial,” speaking about his continued involvement with MAP over the years and his appreciation for its mission.

Speaker of the Connecticut House of Representatives Matt Ritter spoke about how bipartisanship is a top priority for him, and that the Connecticut Future Caucus will “make Connecticut a better place and make the Capitol a place where we can continue to cross aisles.”

Representative John-Michael Parker identified education, energy, and climate as areas where there can be bipartisan collaboration; he stated: “We know trust in government is declining among younger generations but...so is partisan ideology.” Rep. Parker expressed his excitement for starting the Future Caucus, saying that they owe it to their constituents and to the state of Connecticut to bridge the partisan divide.

Rep. Parker then introduced Representative Jillian Gilchrest, who said she was motivated to help launch the Connecticut Future Caucus in order to unify the state around common interests and cultivate a more collaborative government. She said “Data is showing that young people are more likely to identify with issues than with a party. So now more than ever, it is important to bring us together around those issues that are of importance to our future generation.”
