MAP and Facebook Present: Engaging your Constituents and Community on Instagram

The Millennial Action Project teamed up with Facebook to conduct an Instagram workshop for state legislators and staff. During the workshop, titled “Engaging your Constituents and Community on Instagram,” experts from Facebook taught participants how to leverage the tools that Instagram has to offer to enhance legislators' use of the platform to reach as many constituents as possible.

Trained staffers from Facebook discussed a variety of topics regarding Instagram that were of interest to legislators and staff. They shared valuable advice such as enabling two-factor authentication to protect Instagram accounts and why using all of Instagram’s mediums, including reels, IGTV, stories, and posts, are essential to reaching all audiences on Instagram. In addition, the Facebook team detailed tips and tricks specifically for legislators, such as how to safely manage their inbox when constituents have questions and concerns and why they should use creator accounts, as they are ideal for legislators. Finally, legislators and staff had the opportunity to reach out to Facebook to get verified on Instagram.

If you are a state legislator or staffer who is interested in resources geared to building your audience on Instagram, please reach out to MAP’s State Caucus Network Director Jennifer Blemur at jennifer@millennialaction.org.
