On Thursday, October 12th, Representatives Julie Emerson (R-39) Ted James (D-101) announced the creation of the Louisiana Future Caucus. The two co-chairs were joined by over 13 other elected officials and MAP staff to launch the initiative, which will provide a platform for lawmakers to share ideas and coalesce around issues that affect young Louisianans.

The LA Future Caucus joins a nationwide movement in nearly 20 statehouses across the country. Millennial legislators use future caucuses to find common ground and create meaningful progress through government institutions.

“One of our main goals is to engage the Millennial generation and get them more excited about the whole process,” said Rep. Emerson. “We really want to hear from our peers and our colleagues to ensure we are addressing the major issues facing young people today.”

Rep. James echoed these thoughts, “We know that too often millennials are not as engaged in the political process as they should be. We hope to not only encourage the millennials to get excited about the political process, but we also want them to take part - civic engagement doesn't just end at the ballot box.”

The LA Future Caucus provides space for members to create their own agenda of issues important to young constituents including small businesses, criminal justice reform, and more.
