Young legislators in Maine are not only focused on solving issues that impact young people and future generations, like student debt and job creation, they’re also encouraging fellow millennials to become more active in government.
Millennial Action Project launched its 24th state Future Caucus in Augusta, Maine on March 28, 2018, with Co-Chairs Majority House Leader Erin Herbig and Rep. Matt Pouliot. The goal of the Caucus is not only to provide a space to find common ground on these youth-centric issues but also to motivate other young people to join them in the legislature.
“We need more [young] people to be engaged in order for democracy to thrive,” said Rep. Pouliot. He also lauded the Caucus’ efforts of building relationships across the aisle both within and outside the State House.
House Majority Leader Herbig emphasized the timeliness of the Caucus launch, stating, “It's time to renew our focus on young Mainers and invest in future generations."
MAP’s President Steven Olikara closed the press conference by noting the importance of young people in government, highlighting the difference they’re making across the nation.
