Future Caucus Co-Chair Rep. Blake Moore (UT-1) recently introduced bipartisan HR3527, the Recreation Not Red Tape Act, to remove barriers and promote innovative recreational uses of federal lands. Introduced on May 25th, 2021, the bill is originally co-sponsored by Future Caucus member Rep. Derek Kilmer (WA-6).
The bill would require a review of the often complex permitting process for recreational uses of federal lands, while also encouraging military branches to inform servicemembers of outdoor recreation opportunities, increase volunteerism, and more.
America's federal lands are a treasure without comparison for outdoor recreation enthusiasts, yet they remain difficult to access for many. The outdoor recreation industry supports more than 7.6 million U.S. jobs and contributes more than $900 billion to the economy annually. By increasing transparency and ease of use for those trying to access, or better understand how public lands are used, HR3527 would ensure conservation of pristine natural environments while supporting and expanding access to a vital industry that provides tangible benefits to Americans.
The Recreation Not Red Tape Act is active and has been referred to the Subcommittee on Conservation and Forestry in the Committee on Agriculture, and to the Subcommittee on Water Resources and Environment in the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure. The bill currently has two Republican and two Democratic co-sponsors as of May 25th, 2021.
