Rep. Dan Pabon (D), Co-Chair of the Colorado Future Caucus, led a bipartisan coalition to pass SB 14-125 which Governor John Hickenlooper signed into law on June 6, 2014.

The law allows ridesharing companies like Uber and Lyft to operate legally in Colorado and enacts regulations to ensure that they operate safely. This includes legally mandated background checks on drivers and vehicle inspections by the state.

"What this does is it welcomes technology and innovation to Colorado," said Pabon in an interview with the Associated Press.

This marks the first instance of a state legislature passing ridesharing legislation in the country.

The goal of the Colorado Future Caucus is to foster a nonpartisan community of young state-elected officials that models post-partisan leadership on future-oriented issues facing America’s next generation.
