On May 17th, 2016, Congressional Future Caucus members convened for an intimate discussion on areas for bipartisan collaboration and membership development in 2016 and beyond. The 2016 Spring Members' Meeting, facilitated by MAP and led by the Future Caucus members, was held at Google’s DC headquarters.
In addition to Future Caucus Co-Chairs Reps. Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI) and Will Hurd (R-TX), representatives in attendance included Reps. Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ), Jason Smith (R-MO), Brendan Boyle (D-PA), and Seth Moulton (D-MA), among others.
Following the meeting, members joined Future Caucus supporters, members of the technology community in DC, and friends to gather for a reception.
Future Caucus Co-Chair Will Hurd delivered brief remarks and dispelled myths surrounding collaboration on The Hill, noting that “what folks are shocked by is how warm some of the relations are between folks on the other side of the aisle." Congressman Hurd then asserted his belief that “everybody recognizes that the way we’re going to change this country is to engage millennials.”
MAP's President & Co-Founder, Steven Olikara, celebrated the Future Caucus’ momentum in declaring that “there’s a new generation of leaders in Congress, and they are already breaking out of (partisan) gridlock. All we are trying to do is cultivate that spirit and energy as much as we can.”
