Young State Representatives Launch Bipartisan Georgia Future Caucus

A bipartisan cohort of Georgia’s youngest legislators recently announced the creation of the Georgia Future Caucus. The Caucus, co-chaired by Representative Michael Caldwell (R -Woodstock) and Representative Dar’shun Kendrick (D - Lithonia), aims to pass future-focused legislation on the issues affecting young Georgians - and do so across party lines.

The Caucus held two days of events to commemorate the launch. Young elected officials and young professionals from across the Atlanta-metro area joined together for a happy hour event Tuesday evening, providing a forum for the Representatives to discuss the issues most important to millennials in Georgia. The following morning, under-40 members of the Georgia House of Representatives joined MAP for a breakfast, prior to the press conference.

The Press Conference included remarks from Rep. Caldwell, Rep. Park Cannon, and MAP President Steven Olikara.

"We're going to be asking not just the under-40s in Georgia, but all Georgians, what we should prioritize," offered Rep. Caldwell.

The Georgia Future Caucus joins the Millennial Action Project’s national movement of young elected officials breaking through partisan gridlock to reestablish political cooperation. As MAP President & Co-Founder Steven Olikara noted during the launch, "this is truly the next generation of leaders. A lot of millennials will take the first steps in politics at the state level."

It's clear the bipartisan momentum is growing across the state and the country. "I'm fired up about the Millennial Action Project's State Future Caucus Network," said Representative Park Cannon (D-Atlanta).
